Families, friends and entire communities are coming together, after a car crash killed 3 teens and sent two more to the hospital.

David Greg: I won't get to see Tyler graduate, won't see him play football, I won't get to see him get married.

The Shoals community is heartbroken. The crash killed these three students from Wilson High School - Tyler Nelson, Branden Turner, and Coby Hines.

At last check, two other students in the car, Kate Boggus and Kaylee McGee, who attend Florence High School are still in the hospital right now.

Investigators spent the day on County Road 30 where the teen's car crashed.

WAAY 31's Breken Terry was at Wilson High School, where everyone is understandably shaken up.

Breken Terry: This has been an incredibly emotional day her in the Shoals. Everyone is just broken by the loss of these students. Police believe speed and the weather played roles in this craash. The police chief became very emotional with us as he gave us details of the crash, many are feeling the same pain.

Laura Hall: I've taught all three students. They were great students. Great athletes.

Laura Hall taught Tyler Nelson, Branen Turner, and Coby Hines at Wilson High School. All three students lost their lives Thursday night on County Road 30 in St. Florian in a car crash.

Hall: Sometimes as teachers we are at a loss for words and that doesn't happen a lot as a teacher and we love these students and there just isn't an answer as to why.

St. Florian Police tell us Florence High School student Kate Boggus was driving her car down County Road 30 at about 9:30 - another Florence student Kaylee McGee - along with Nelson, Turner and Hines were all in the car. When she lost control of the car and hit a gate, then these trees.

Chief Brewer: We're measuring the skid marks. Seeing the point of impact where the car came to rest at.

St. Florian Police were back at the scene on Friday, marking the path the car took. Police tell us it was foggy and the roads were slick with rain. They believe that was one of the contributing factors to the crash.

Brewer: It's still under investigation, but at this time it does appear that speed is a contributing factor.

As the Shoals community is rocked to its core by the deaths of these students, even first responders like St. Florian Police Chief Jason Brewer are overcome with sadness.

Brewer: It is tough for the police department, the fire department. We all got kids the same age.

Terry: St. Florian Police tell us State Troopers are also assisting them in this investigation. Boggus and McGee are still in the hospital. Live in Lauderdale County, Breken Terry, WAAY 31 News.
