Officials in Lauderdale County held a news conference Thursday afternoon about the coronavirus pandemic.
Florence city officials said utility late fees and disconnections are waived until April 30, and next week, they will meet to see if they will extend that date.
This was just one topic covered in the joint news conference with the city and Lauderdale County. Everyone was spaced out and wearing masks at the conference.
Starting Friday, the Lauderdale County Licensing Commission will open its lobby in the hopes of cutting down on the drive-thru traffic lines on Pine Street.
A limited number of people will be allowed in, and you must have a mask on to enter. Officials wanted to remind people if they buy a car, there is no penalty until May 15.
"No matter when you bought it, in April or even on through May, you have until the 15th to get that title without a penalty," said Lauderdale County Commission Chairman Danny Pettus.
The Florence police chief and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office said during the conference, crime rates have gone down, but property crimes like burglary and thefts are still happening.
