The University of Alabama in Huntsville basketball team split their first two games of the year on the road and return home on Thursday night to take on Trevecca Nazarene for their home opener.

This year's Chargers have a much different look than we've seen from the team in recent years, they graduated five senionrs last year and only return three seniors this season.  So far that hasn't been an issue for UAH because their young guns have stepped up when the bullets start flying.

Five of their freshman loogged minutes in the team's first two games of the season, with current GSC Freshman of the Week Seth Swalve averaging 10.5 points, 2 assists and 1 rebound in his fist two college games.  On top of that, fellow freshman Sam Orf came of the bench to average 8 points, 3 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

"We got a lot of young guys that really helped us. We had times out there this weekend where we had four freshman on the floor," said UAH head coach Lennie Acuff.  "To be playing in that environment against good teams, NCAA caliber teams, it was encouraging to see how well they played and how well they competed.  So our younger guys are stepping up, now we need our older guys to get a little bit more consistent."

Along with the young core of players faring well, senior guard Justin Ward is off to a hot start.  Through the team's first couple games he's averaged 20 points and five rebounds a game.   Helping lead the Chargers to an average of 89 points per game, good for the Gulf South Conference's second ranked scoring offense.

UAH faces an 0-2 Trevecca Nazarene team but will need to slow down Devin Whitfield, who's currently averaging 22 and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Trojans.  The'll also have to bring the mucle down in the paint, because TNU's Mehdi El Mardi has been pulling in rebounds in bunches, averaging 10 per game.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall in Huntsville, Ala. on Thursday, November 16.
