All offseason Nick Saban has harped on the need to improve his team's depth on defense, and it seems he's found a way to do just that five days into fall camp.

According to a report from, Ale Kaho, the former five-star linebacker who was released from his national letter of intent with Washington on Monday, is heading to Alabama and it could happen as early ast Wednesday night.

Kaho was ranked the nation's No. 1 inside linebacker in the 2018 class by 247sports' composite rankings and since he never actually enrolled at the University of Washington he'll be eligible to play immediately, helping to provide the Tide with quality depth at linebacker.

Huskies head coach Christ Peterson cited "personal reasons" for the release of Kaho, who was his program's highest-rated incoming freshman.

"On this official, the difference I saw was how dedicated the coaches are and how differently they do things, not only with football but with the academic aspect, too," Kaho told 247Sports following his visit to Alabama last year. "They know what classes you're taking and what assignments are coming up. They are on it. The one thing I was looking for was the coaches being real with me and not sugar coating anything. They were 100 percent real with me. I loved everything they told me and everything they talked about with me and my family. It was better than I thought it would be.

"Coach (Nick) Saban told me he could see me (playing inside and outside), too, since I have the athleticism. That made me feel a lot better because it doesn't make me one-dimensional in their defense. I could go pass rush, I could work on my coverage or fill gaps in the middle if I have to -- it's wherever they would need me. It made me feel a lot better about Alabama from a football standpoint."

While it may take some time for Kaho to get acclimated in Tuscaloosa, there's no denying his addition is huge for the Tide.  After Terrell Lewis tore his ACL during summer workouts the Tide have shuffled a few players around the linebacking core to account for the loss and bringing in Kaho could provide more versatility to a group who's depth is already being tested before the season even starts.
