Police arrested a Decatur man after he led officers on a foot chase on the 1400 block of Brownstone Avenue SW.

Michael Leon Baker is facing a long list of drug charges including trafficking methamphetamine and cocaine.

Some neighbors told WAAY 31 they're worried about drug activity in their area and they want to see more police on the streets.

"I realized sometimes people are short staffed but it is a problem. It is an epidemic and it needs some serious attention," says Jeanene Risinger.

Risinger lives with her sick father down the street on East Brownstone Court. She's concerned that drug activity happened just half a mile away from Julian Harris Elementary School.

"And to think that of the number of children that walk down that street going to and from a bus stop," adds Risinger.

We don't know why, but police executed a search warrant at this home. Police say that's when Baker took off when they approached the home. After running for about a minute, police arrested him on 5 different drug charges.

Those charges include trafficking meth, cocaine, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana in the first degree. Police say the marijuana was packed for sale.

But these aren't Baker's first drug charges. After going through court records, we found that in 2010 he was originally charged with trafficking cocaine, but pleaded down to possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

In 2011, Baker pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substance by fraud. He was sentenced to 36 months in prison and 36 months on probation.

"It is surprising and a little uncomfortable knowing it happened so close to my parents home," says Risinger.

"There's just been so many drug arrests and people breaking into the elderly people's homes. That's always one of my biggest fears," she adds.

WAAY 31 reached out to the Morgan County Jail who told us Baker bonded out of jail on November 27. Just one day after he was arrested.

Decatur police say a man is in custody after cash and drugs were found in a home.

The department says on Nov. 26, its officers and members of the Madison-Morgan County Strategic Counterdrug Team executed a search warrant in the 1400 block of Brownstone Avenue SW.

Police say Michael Baker ran away when he saw officers approaching, but he was quickly taken into custody. They say officials found methamphetamine, cocaine, alprazolam, suboxone, marijuana packaged for sale and cash.

Baker was booked in the Morgan County Jail on charges for trafficking in methamphetamine, trafficking in cocaine, possession of a controlled substance (alprazolam), possession of a controlled substance (Suboxone) and possession of marijuana first-degree. His bond is set at $37,500.
