Decatur police say a tip from federal agents regarding a "suspicious aircraft" landing at Pryor Regional Airfield led to a large marijuana seizure Saturday.

Police say a 1967 Beech Craft V35A airplane landed at 3:45 p.m., and investigators approached the pilot to conduct a certification inspection. Police identified 56-year-old Yevgeny Faktorovich of California as the pilot, and investigators say he became nervous during the inspection. Faktorovich is of Ukranian descent, but he is a U.S. citizen.

Police brought in a drug-sniffing dog, who positively identified that there were illegal drugs in the plane. Officers seized approximately 38 pounds of marijuana in a large garbage bag, suitcase and a black plastic storage bin. Police believe the value of the marijuana is approximately $100,000.

"It's quite unusual for a local law enforcement agency to encounter such a take," says Decatur police chief Nate Allen.

Police are still trying to find out who Faktorovich was trying to distribute the marijuana to, and he is now out of jail on a $100,000 bond.

Faktorovich could also face federal charges.
