The National Weather Service in Huntsville tweeted Friday that the storm that hit the White City and Holly Pond communities in Cullman County on Thursday did contain a tornado.
According to NWS Huntsville, the tornado was an EF-1 tornado with max winds around 105 mph. It cut a track a little over 11 miles long and was 112 yards wide at its max width. They say the tornado touched down 0.2 miles southwest of White City.
NWS Huntsville surveyed damage in Lawrence County in Bankhead National Forest. They say they found sporadic tree damage along the storm's path, but it was likely not a tornado. Their official report is that it was thunderstorm wind damage. They say the winds were likely around 70-75 mph.
