Muscle Shoals wins boys and girls state golf titles

A handful of local teams won state golf championships at RTJ's Shoals Golf Club on Tuesday.

Nine local teams brought home blue maps on the final day of the 80th annual AHSAA State Golf Championships on Tuesday at the RTJ Shoals Golf Club.

Muscle Shoals flexed on the competition on their home course, winning both the boys and girls Class 6A State Championships.  The boys shot a 296-285-581 total to claim the title with Thomas Regan firing a 7-under-65 leading all classes with the low round Tuesday. He finished the thournament with an 8-under 71-65-136 total.  The Lady Trojans won the state title with a 239-232-471 to finish 23 stroked ahead of second place Hartselle (494).   

Hartelle's Mikayla Dubnick earned the low medalist honors with a 2-under 70 and a two-day 142 total. 

In Class 5A, St. Paul's Episcopal won the school's 12th boys state golf championship with a 596 team total with Russellville finishing behind them in second place thanks to a 624 total.  Brooks' Justin Olive led all the boys in the classfication with a 68-70-138 for the tournament to earn low medalist honors. 

Following Monday's record-setting 64, Randolph's Michaela Morard finished one stroke out of first, carding a 1-over 73 on the day.  Previously she had won back-to-back individual championships while attending Huntsville High School in 2015 and 2016 before sitting out the 2017 season following a transfer to Randolph.  Her efforts on Tuesday helped the Raiders finish in second place.

Madison Academy finished with a 678 total to claim third place in the boys' Class 4A tournament behind UMS-Wright, who won their 24th overall state golf championship with a 581 total and White Plaines who was 53 strokes behind first at 634. 

In Class 1A/3A, Clements carded a 578 total to finish in third place behind Providence Christian (236) and Bayside Academy (498).
