Morgan County inmate gets felony charges for assaulting officers during booking

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect Wednesday afternoon as Jamie Obrian New, 31, of Decatur.

UPDATE: The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect Wednesday afternoon as Jamie Obrian New, 31, of Decatur. He was arrested by Decatur police on Tuesday for public intoxication.

New was taken to the Morgan County Jail to be booked. The sheriff’s office says after initially complying, he became combative during the booking process, injuring four corrections officers. They were taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital where they were treated and released.

The sheriff’s office says one of the officers suffered a concussion, and the other three have injuries to the knee, arm and hand and will need to follow up with an orthopedist.

New received four felony charges of second degree assault.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says four corrections officers were injured in the line of duty Tuesday night while a subject was being booked in the jail.

They were taken to Decatur Morgan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Facebook post.

An investigation is underway.
