Authorities are searching for a Morgan County jail inmate who escaped from his work detail this past Friday at 10 p.m.

39-year-old Christopher Michael Walker of Decatur walked away from his assigned work detail at the Fraternal Order of Eagles on 14th Street. Morgan County Sheriff Ana Franklin told WAAY 31 Walker was cleaning the kitchen. When he took the trash out, he decided to walk off the property.

Walker was chosen to be on work release as a trustree because he had good bevior and wasn't violent. He fit the criteria and didn't need a deputy supervisor. Around late Friday night, an employee of the Fraternal Order of Eagles noticed that Walker escaped.

WAAY 31 reached out to the mother of Walker who lives about 5 minutes from the building. She didn't want to talk on camera, but said her son came by the house and grabbed a few items around midnight after he escaped. She said he's been back and forth. When she tried to call 911 or told him to turn himself in to the authorities, he'd take off.

Sheriff Franklin said the purpose of the trustee work release program is to give inmates with good behavior a responsibility. It helps them in court and once they're released from jail. She said Walker could now possibly face up to 20 years in prison.

Walker is a white male, 5'10 height and weighs 150 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes.

Walker was in custody on a bond revocation from a drug charge. The Morgan County Sheriff's office said if you have any information on the whereabouts of Walker, call the Sheriff's office at 256-351-480
