A Leighton man is in custody after a standoff and string of crimes early Sunday morning in Limestone County.

Tyler Parker is charged with five counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree arson, first-degree theft and shooting into an occupied vehicle. His bond is set at $682,500.

Limestone county investigators said Parker shot at deputies after they chased him for allegedly stealing a vehicle off Piney Chapel Road. Deputies said they exchanged gunfire with Parker. The vehicle was later found in a wooded area off Highway 127 north of Athens.

Parker then forced himself inside a mobile home on Sewell Road with his girlfriend. A couple was inside the home sleeping. Limestone county deputies said Parker told the couple, Judy and Tim Siniard, that he was cold and needed to use the telephone.

While Judy talked to Parker, Tim went to flag down a deputy outside. Judy said Parker didn't threaten her, but he made them push everything in front of the door so deputies could not get inside.

Deputies negotiated and were able to remove Judy from the house, but they failed to get Parker and his girlfriend out. Parker then set the home on fire, causing it to be a total loss. Deputies and fire fighters pulled Parker and his girlfriend out from the house through the back window.

The Red Cross showed up at the mobile home to help Judy and Tim Siniard. According to deputies, Parker was high on meth at the time of the incident.
