The Madison County Courthouse is closed indefinitely starting Monday due to the coronavirus. In a release from county officials, it states the preventative measure is to ensure the health and safety of all residents and employees.

Residents can contact their local district commissioner for specific details regarding operations and office hours. You can find their contact information here.

Essential service departments including Water, Sanitation, and Public Works will continue to work during the closure. Residents can use online services to access information, conduct county business and pay bills. County officials will notify residents of any changes to services.

Starting Monday, Probate Judge Frank Barger also suspended non-emergency probate court proceedings and public operations in order to protect citizens and staff.

The Probate Office and all locations including the Courthouse Record Room and Madison County Records Center will be closed to physical public access. All direct services including passport applications and notary applications are suspended. All non-emergency hearings and proceedings will be rescheduled.

The Probate Court will only accept petitions and set hearings for involuntary commitments and emergency guardianships.

Available records may be accessed using an online portal here. Requests for Probate Court records or records held at the Madison County Records Center which are not available online should be emailed to probate@madisoncountyal.gov or a request made via telephone to 256-532-3330.

Election officials are currently reviewing election operation and management plans. An update on election operation and management plans for the 2020 Primary Election Runoff will be provided no later than Noon on Tuesday, March 17.
