Update: The charges Paulk was in court for on Tuesday included unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and illegal possession of a pistol.

These charges are in regards to the search warrant that was executed in June at a home on Piney Chapel Road, where Paulk’s pet squirrel was found.

Limestone County narcotics investigators say they also found evidence of drugs, drug paraphernalia, ammo and body armor. They say they found plaques and debit cards with Paulk’s name on them, but Paulk was not at the house when the warrant was executed.

In court, a narcotics investigator, Jamie King, said the investigation into Paulk began in January of 2019, when they got video of him holding a weapon, through a confidential informant who wore an undercover camera.

The video showed meth and the man in the video was identified as Paulk. Screenshots from that video were presented in court on Tuesday.

Paulk’s attorney, Jim Moffatt, fought investigators on the drugs in the video belonging to Paulk and the home where the drugs were found being where he lived. The attorney said there was no evidence to hit Paulk with the firearm charge and no direct evidence to hit him with drug possession either.

The court found probable cause for the possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substance charges. They’re currently looking into the weapons charge and taking it under advisement. They are also examining the screenshots from the video to decide if it is, indeed, Paulk in the video.

From earlier:

The man known for keeping a wild squirrel as a pet is expected to be back in court Tuesday afternoon. Mickey Paulk will face a Limestone County judge for drug charges.

Paulk went viral after he posted a Facebook live video of himself denying claims of drugging a squirrel and training it to attack, all while holding a squirrel.

This all started when the Limestone County Sheriff's Office went to arrest Paulk in June for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia.

That's when they received a tip that Paulk was keeping a squirrel as a pet and feeding it meth. Those are claims Paulk denied in that Facebook live video.

He then went on the run and was arrested in Lauderdale County after officials spent several days looking for him.

Paulk will have another court hearing in October to face his charges for keeping a wild animal.
