A Decatur man was arrested late Sunday night on charges of first degree robbery and second degree kidnapping.

He is being held on a $110,000 bond for what he's accused of doing late Friday night and early Saturday morning.

He's accused of first robbing a man at gunpiont and then kidnapping another man at gunpoint to demand a ride.

People in the Parkway Place apartment complex in Decatur told WAAY 31 they saw Cecil Evans walking around with a gun, which immediately forced them inside in fear.

Moments later. he knocked on the door of James Mason.

Mason was playing the piano when he heard loud knocking.

He answered the door to Evans holding a gun.

"My mind was on 'I wanted to live,'" said Mason.

All Evans wanted was a ride.

"He pointed the gun at my face and told me 'Hey, get me out of here,'" said Mason.

Not wanting to die, all Mason thought to do was comply.

"Sometimes we got to do what we got to do in order to make it, in order to live," said Mason.

Even though Mason said he was fearful for his life, when he was forced by gunpoint into his car to give the accused armed robber a ride, he said he didn't even want to press charges.

"I was just thankful to be alive," said Mason.

Mason had seen Evans around before and knew something wasn't quite right with him.

"He wasn't all the way there I do know that," said Mason.

"Did it ever cross your mind to make a play for the gun and see if you could get it away from him," asked WAAY 31 Reporter Kody Fisher.

"Yeah, those thoughts did come to my mind, but my mind was thinking, 'Well, he did lay the gun down,'" said Mason.

He can only thank his faith for still being alive.

"It was a shaky situation and I just thank god he delivered me out of it," said Mason.

The Decatur Police Department told WAAY 31 they were able to solve this case so quickly because all the people involved knew each other and cooperated with police.
