UPDATE: (10:46 p.m. 7/31/19) Crews with Huntsville Utilities have restored power to more people in the Meridianville area. 200 customers are still without power. Crews are still on Countess Road working to install new power poles.

People in the area told WAAY 31 the storm that blew through the area was powerful for a short period of time. Kurtessia Beard lives on Countess Road. She's was calm Wednesday evening as she watched crews fix the power pole in her front yard, but during the storm, "it was scary. I was about to have an anxiety attack," said Beard.

Beard said it blew through fast, "two-three minutes, that's it."

Raymond Andrews spent the afternoon blowing debris off his yard from the storm. He was inside when things started to get bad, "just looked up at the skylights and I saw the hail," said Andrews.

He wasn't scared because of his experience with other storms. After it was over he, "came outside, took a look over there and I saw that tree down," said Andrews.

The tree fell near a home. The woman who lives there was too shaken to speak with WAAY 31 on-camera, but told us she's thankful it didn't fall into her house. She's sad to see the tree go because it represented decades of family memories.

As Huntsville Utilities worked to install new power poles, Beard told WAAY 31 her family felt the impact of no power, "everybody's phones about to die. Can't cook. Going to get food from Popeyes," said Beard.

Huntsville Utilities told WAAY 31 they're working as fast as possible to get the power back on for people in the area, but they don't know exactly how long it will take because of all the downed power poles.

UPDATE: (6:50 p.m. 7/31/19) Huntsville Utilities says service has been partially restored to the Moores Mill/Chase area. A spokesperson, Joe Gehrdes, says service was lost when a thunderstorm moved through the area around 5 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Gehrdes says high winds brought down six utility poles along Countess Road in Huntsville. He says crews are working to repair equipment and restore service to approximately 400 customers in the area.

-----------

From earlier:

Huntsville Utilities says there is a power outage in the Moores Mill/Chase area from Oscar Patterson Road south to Winchester Road and from Highway 231/431 east to Maysville Road.

The company’s outage map says well more than 1,000 customers could be impacted. Be mindful of possible outages at traffic signals.

Crews have been dispatched and power will be restored as quickly as possible, said spokesman Joe Gehrdes. He said the cause is unknown at this time.
