7:42 p.m. Update:

A vehicle accident on Butler Road damaged a utility pole and caused energized power lines to become entangled in the vehicle. Huntsville Utilities cut power to the area so first responders could safely do their work. Electric Operations replaced a 50-foot pole and restored service. There is still one customer in that area without power.

The outages in northeast, northwest, and southwest Huntsville were all weather-related (lightning strikes, tree limbs, etc.). While service has been restored to most of the customers in those areas, there are still pockets of homes and businesses without service. This includes portions of Madison County.

Update from Huntsville Utilities:

While Electric Operations crews continue working to restore service, power has been restored to a large, previously reported area of northeast Huntsville from Oakwood Avenue south to McClung Avenue and from California Street east to Monte Sano Mountain (including customers near the state park).

Anyone in that area still without power should call 256-53-LIGHT (256-535-4448).

Crews continue to work in areas of northwest and southwest Huntsville, as well as other scattered outages around the service area.

Work also continues in Hazel Green/New Market, where service was interrupted due to a vehicle accident. First responders asked for lines to be deactivated so the driver and passenger could be safely extracted.

Earlier from Huntsville Utilities:

Huntsville Utilities Electric Operations crews are responding to multiple power outages in the service area.

One is impacting the Hazel Green/New Market area and was caused by a vehicle accident on Butler Road.

There is also an outage in southwest Huntsville from Drake Avenue south to Martin Road and from Triana Boulevard east to Memorial Parkway.

And crews are responding to a power outage in northeast Huntsville from Oakwood Avenue south to McClung Avenue and from California Street east to Monte Sano Mountain. This also affects customer on Monte Sano near the state park.

While the specific cause for the last two outages has not been confirmed, a weather system is currently moving through the service area.

From earlier:

Huntsville Utilities is reporting power outages for thousands of customers in Madison County.

The outages, which are scattered in the county and range from1 to 5 customers to more than 1,300, likely are connected to the severe weather in the county Tuesday evening.

The largest number of outages are concentrated in the western part of Madison County.
