Huntsville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Matt Akin officially resigned his position with the district.
The move was backed by a 3-2 vote by the board of education Thursday.
Akin's final day with the district will be on May 31st and his first with the new district in Gulf Shores will be June 1st.
From June 1st Huntsville City Schools has 180 days to find a new superintendent.
Right now they still haven't picked an interim superintendent.
The board of education will meet in the coming weeks to hash out the fine details of how they'll go about filling the position left vacant by Akin.
