A Florence man was arrested Friday after he fell through the attic floor of a condo on Bay Village Drive and escaped temporarily to another condo, where he was found asleep and in possession of methamphetamine and burglar's tools.
Shelby Myers Hurd, 29, is charged with possession of burglar's tools and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Limestone County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
A neighbor reported around noon that someone had fallen through the roof and into her kitchen. She saw the man leave her condo from the balcony.
After deputies arrived, they were contacted by a pest control contractor who found Hurd asleep on a bed in an empty unit.
Investigators determined that Hurd had been staying in the empty condo beneath the victim's unit, and had climbed through a wall panel into her attic in an attempt to leave without being seen.
Additional charges are still pending.
