Talk about an expanded role, after three years as the head football coach at Randolph High School, Nick Flanagan is heading to Shoals Christian where he will be the athletic director, football and baseball coach.

Flanagan's career at Randolph began in 2014, working as the team's offensive line coach till he was promoted to head coach in May the following year.  In his first season leading the Raiders they won a program-record seven games and made the playoffs for the first time in the team's history. He followed that first year up with a pair of playoff appearances following back-to-back 6-5 seasons.

“We are so excited to have coach Nick Flanagan join the SCS family,” Shoals Christian Head of School Felicia Jones said in a press release. “He is exactly what we are looking for to lead this new generation of young men and young women. Coach Flanagan will have an opportunity to touch the lives of our student athletes both spiritually and athletically. We are blessed to have him.”

He takes over a Shoals Christian football team that went 1-9 last season and 4-7 in 2016, making an appearance in the Class 1A playoffs.

Baseball isn't a new gig for Flanagan either.  He was named the head coach of the Randolph baseball program prior to last season after Lee Hall accepted a job at Homewood High School.  In his only season on the diamond he led the Raiders to an 18-8 season and a Class 4A playoff appearance.

In the Shoals Christian baseball program, he inherits a group that went 11-21 last season with a run to the second round of the Class 1A playoffs.
