Just now, Alabama State House District 19 Representative Laura Hall told WAAY 31 organizers have heard nothing back from the Roy Moore campaign in response to an invitation from organizers to participate in a town hall meeting.

Hall told WAAY 31, "The only person who responded was Doug Jones."

Still, the town hall will go on tomorrow night as scheduled.

Both Hall and Jones are Democrats.

WAAY 31 asked Representative Hall if she was disappointed GOP candidate Judge Moore won't be there. "We are," Hall said, "but we just decided we were committed to providing this forum to the community. So, we're going to move ahead."

Roy Moore's absence is no surprise. The decision is consistent with the campaign's original strategy.

It's important to point out, even before the controversy, Moore's campaign said, “We haven’t given it any consideration and probably will not give it any consideration,” Moore’s campaign chair, Bill Armistead, told The Intercept in an interview. “I don’t think we’re gonna give it any consideration.”

The focus of the event is Alabama's special election to fill the seat Jeff Sessions held until he was appointed U.S. Attorney General. Right now, Luther Strange is holding the seat after he was appointed by then-Governor Robert Bentley. Strange lost to Moore in the GOP primary.

At the town hall, questions will come from people in the audience. Also, folks can email questions to

The Epsilon Gamma Omega chaprter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Huntsville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are hosting the town hall. The 2-hour forum happens Tuesday night starting at 6 at First Missionary Baptist Church at 3509 Blue Spring Road. It is free and open to the public.
