WAAY 31 has learned more about the 3 teens who were killed in a car crash in the Shoals.

Three Wilson High School students were killed and two Florence High School students were hospitalized after a wreck Thursday night.

Tyler Nelson, 16, Coby Hines, 16, and Braden Turner, 17, were all killed in the wreck on County Road 30 around 9:30 pm Thursday, St. Florian Police Chief Jason Brewer said.

The driver of the vehicle, Kate Boggus, 16, was hospitalized at UAB. Another passenger, Kaylee McGee, 16, was taken to Huntsville Hospital. Both were in serious condition, according to Brewer.

"We have hope. Even though we grieve we don't grieve because we don't have hope. We grieve because we miss them," said David Gregg, Tyler Nelson's great uncle.

Gregg was at the scene on County Road 30 Thursday night and tells us he came back Friday to feel some connection to his nephew and make sure this wasn't a bad dream.

"Very energetic and he loved playing football, I know that. He's got a brother, Drew, that's going to miss him dearly too," said Gregg.

Tyler Nelson, Branden Turner, and Coby Hines all went to school at Wilson High School. They all played sports too. This community is heartbroken but staying strong. A man actually came by the school and lowered the flag at half staff. WAAY 31 spoke with him as he was crying. The loss of these students is affecting the whole community and the families most of all.

"When I got out of the car, I heard my sister in law crying and that's when I knew for sure that this had happened," said Gregg.

Tyler and Braden played football at Wilson and Coby played basketball. All were described as great kids. Underwood Baptist Church opened their doors for students Thursday night and Friday. Most of these students grew up with the teens in this close knit community.

"We've been just hugging them and loving them and telling them that Jesus has a plan for their life," said Matt Buerhaus, the youth paster at Underwood Baptist Church.

Braden went to church at Underwood Baptist. Buerhaus fought back tears as he explained he struggled to find the words to tell the students.

"I said God I don't know what to say to these kids, what do I say? And just as clear as I'm talking to you he said just tell them I love them and give them a hug," said Buerhaus.

As hugs go around, words of inspiration, support and love fill this community. Many told us they will get through this together and lean on their faith.

"God is the god of comfort and I hang onto that verse," said Gregg.

There will be a candlelight vigil for the students on Saturday, April 28th at 8 pm. The school is still working on a location. Visitation for the students will be Tuesday, May 1st at 1 pm at the Wilson High School gym.
