The East Limestone High School Marching Band got a major boost from the community Tuesday.

Salsarita's in Madison hosted a fundraiser for the band to help cover costs to replace items stolen from their trailer over the weekend.

Luckily, police found the trailer on Sunday, but not everything was inside.

20% of everybody's bill that came through Salsarita's went right back to the to the band who is bouncing back from their roller coaster weekend.

The Marching Indians of East Limestone High School started their weekend on a high note by taking first place at the West Alabama Marching Band Festival.

They quickly took a sharp emotional dive Sunday morning when they found out their trailer was stolen.

It had over $200,000 worth of equipment inside.

"At first it was definitely heartbreaking to us," said Drum Major William Christopher.

One parent of a student in the band said the theft could have been a death knell to the program.

"We do so much with so little; knowing that the loss of those instruments might spell the end of the program as we know it," said parent Chris Spence

A strong social media campaign got the word out and people all over the country were looking for the trailer.

A band parent south of here ended up seeing it in an industrial area of Birmingham.

The thieves had trashed the truck towing the trailer and stole the bands brand new generator worth just under $2,000, but luckily all their instruments and other equipment were untouched.

"Could have been so much worse, so much worse," said Band Director Jennifer Janzen.

From the moment the trailer was stolen people in the community have been giving money to the band.

They raised just over $3,300, but with the trailer found the band director told WAAY 31 that money will go towards a new generator.

For the band, its back to playing music with a bond more powerful than before.

"Our motto as a band is 'stronger together,' so going through this process we definitely tried to make that motto come true," said Christopher.

All of the proceeds from the fundraiser at Salsarita's will go to pay for damages to truck that was towing the trailer, damages to the trailer itself, and to pay for the cost of the impound lot where the trailer was parked after the police found it.
