UPDATE: The Muscle Shoals Police Department has made two arrests in connection with the burglary of the Colbert County Sheriff's Office guns and other break-ins:

Muscle Shoals Police Chief Clint Reck issued this statement Wednesday afternoon: Today, the MSPD Detective Division effected the arrest of one adult individual, Brandon Pryor, and one juvenile involved in recent vehicle break-ins throughout Cottonwood Subdivision and Nathan Estates.

The arrests are directly related to the break-in of a Colbert County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle in which two firearms were stolen.

At the time of arrest, the stolen shotgun was recovered.

Special thanks to members of our community who have assisted our investigation with video surveillance footage and information. If you have further details related to this investigation, please call MSPD at (256) 383-6746

From earlier:

Guns were stolen during a burglary to a Colbert County Sheriff’s Patrol Unit in Muscle Shoals.

The sheriff’s office says one of its units was broken into and an M16 and a 12ga shotgun were taken. There were also multiple cars broken into.

The theft happened in the area of Luanne Street between 6 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police in Muscle Shoals and Sheffield confirm at least 10 other cars in the two cities, along with the deputy's patrol car, were burglarized. Colbert County Sheriff Frank Williamson said his deputy insisted he locked the doors to his patrol car.

"There were other break-ins that night and also seemed to be no forced entry," said Williamson. "I believe that they were using unlock tools."

"I think in this particular one, we didn't, so we are recalling all of the ARs (similar to M16) so we can make sure everyone has one in their vehicle," said Williamson.

Williamson said had the rack been there, the guns could have been double locked.

"You got a lock on the door, then the racks have a lock on them as well. You can't get those open unless you know how," said Williamson.

Williamson said out of their fleet of vehicles, most every one has a rack in it. They will store the larger guns at the sheriff's office until all cars have racks.

The sheriff’s office asks if you have cameras in the area to check them to see if you have footage that might help investigators.

A nationwide alert has been issued to law enforcement for the stolen weapons.

If you have any information about the case, call the Muscle Shoals Police Department at (256) 383-6746 or the Colbert County Sheriff’s Office at (256) 383-0741.

You can also call the Sheffield Police Department to report a tip.
