One person is dead after a house fire in the Joppa community of Morgan county. Tri-county and Rock Creek fire crews responded around 2 am Tuesday to the home located at Highway 67 and Apple Grove Road.
One body was discovered inside the burned house.
A neighbor, Belinda Abney, told WAAY 31 a woman, her teenage son and younger daughter lived there. Abney works at a cabinet shop next door and first saw the fire on the news before getting a phone call about the location. "Our sister-in-law called us and told us exactly where it was. We didn't even know it was right behind our cabinet shop. I didn't know (the woman) personally, but my son goes over there and plays with her daughter a lot. Any time we're working at the cabinet shop he'll go over there and play with her."
The whereabouts of the family is still unknown.
The Morgan County Coroner has not released the name or gender of the body found inside the home. An autopsy is being conducted. Investigatrors told WAAY 31 they suspect foul play.
Abney, said this is normally a very quiet area. "It is. Nothing ever happens around here so we were very surprised."
The investigation into the cause of death and the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
