An Athens woman who called police to report a robbery ended up behind bars herself after investigators said she made up the crime.
Vernita Yvonne Calhoun, 43, was charged with falsely reporting an incident Tuesday.
Calhoun called the Limestone County Sheriff's Office Tuesday and said she had been robbed near the intersection of Mooresville and Humphrey roads, investigators said.
According to investigators, Calhoun told them a man stopped to help her at the intersection when her vehicle broke down, but then took her purse and left.
After investigating, authorities said they found Calhoun still had the things she claimed were stolen. Calhoun admitted making up the robbery so she could get her medication refilled, authorities said.
Calhoun has been released from the Limestone County Jail on $1,000 bond.
