Limestone County Sheriff’s Office narcotics investigators seized about $350,000 worth of marijuana plants, methamphetamine, Oxycontin and other illegal prescription drugs Thursday while executing a search warrant.

David Brian Todd, 61, of Athens is charged with drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute (meth), possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, said Stephen Young, office spokesman.

Todd is being held at the Limestone County Jail.

Young said the Narcotics Unit conducted the search Thursday evening at David Todd’s residence in the 12000 block of Bent Pine Pocket near the Tennessee River. They located an indoor marijuana growing operation consisting of 70 high-grade marijuana plants, and they also seized more than a half-ounce of methamphetamine and some Oxycontin as well as other prescription drugs.

The seizure marks one of the largest drug seizures Limestone County investigators have made in recent years, Young said.

WAAY 31 spoke with some of Todd's neighbors who were completely shocked to hear that a drug bust happened in their community, but even more surprised when they realized who was involved.

“It’s a great neighborhood. Our neighbors would do anything for you. We help each other out. We keep each other’s dogs when we’re on vacation and that sort of thing," James Walsh said.

Walsh has lived in the same neighborhood for 18 years and said he’s never really had to worry about crime.

So, when he heard a drug bust, involving 70 marijuana plants and meth, happened just down the road from his home, he was completely caught off guard.

“It’s just unbelievable for our neighborhood, but stuff like that happens somewhere, so it happened here," he said.

And, to make matters worse, Walsh says he knew the neighbor who was arrested in the bust.

“He would put on a fireworks display that was professional," Walsh said. "It was like as big as one the city might put on.”

In fact, most neighbors WAAY 31 spoke with know the name Brian Todd.

“He was always very helpful," said Bob Khym said. "Any time anybody needed anything in the subdivision, he was there with his tools and his truck, and could fix just about anything.”

But every neighbor told WAAY 31 they had no idea about the drugs and say they never would’ve expected Todd to be involved in something like this.

“No indication. He seemed like a really nice guy," Khym said. "Never suspected anything. Never saw any unusual traffic.”

Neighbors agreed that they’re just glad the drugs are off the streets.

“Good work to the sheriff’s office, because we certainly don’t want that in this neighborhood or any other one," Walsh said.
