Athens police seek witnesses to Wednesday night double shooting

Capt. Trevor Harris says while people were injured, nobody was killed.

The Athens Police Department is asking for help from witnesses to a Wednesday night double shooting.

Police responded to the G and G Grocery parking lot on the corner of Hwy. 72 and Hine Street about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and found two men who had been shot, said Capt. Trevor Harris.

One man was taken by ambulance to Athens-Limestone Hospital. The other victim was transported to the hospital by family. Neither victim is believed to have life-threatening injuries, Harris said.

A motive for this shooting has not yet been identified. Officers and detectives continue to speak with witnesses and collect evidence.
