University of Alabama linebacker Vandarius Cowan has been dismissed from the team, a little over two weeks after an alleged assault outside of a Tuscaloosa bar.
"VanDarius has been dismissed from the team and is no longer a part of our football program due to a violation of team rules," head coach Nick Saban said in a statement Monday morning. "Each of us has a responsibility to represent The University of Alabama in a first-class way, and failure to meet those standards can't be tolerated. We wish VanDarius the very best in the future."

The statement did not go into the specifics about Cowan's dismissal from the team. The Tuscaloosa News reported he turned himself in last week for an incident on June 23, where he was accused of punching a man outside a Tuscaloosa bar. Cowan was charged with misdemeanor assault.
Cowan, from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., came in to Alabama in the 2017 as a top linebacker prospect and played in several games for the Crimson Tide.
