The Alabama Republican Party announced Thursday it will stand by Roy Moore, the party's U.S. Senate nominee, one week after allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 14-year-old girl surfaced.

“On Wednesday evening, the Alabama Republican Party Steering Committee, comprised of 21 members, met to discuss the events and circumstances regarding the December 12 U.S. Senate race,” said Alabama Republican Party Chair Terry Lathan, "The ALGOP Steering Committee supports Judge Roy Moore as our nominee and trusts the voters as they make the ultimate decision in this crucial race.”

Lathan cites Moore's denial of allegations brought forth by the 14-year-old and other women throughout the week who made other claims and says he "deserves to be presumed innocent of the accusations unless proven otherwise."

The chair went on to discuss the contrast between the two candidates, saying Moore would support President Donald Trump's policies, which the Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, would "thwart the agenda."

The statement concluded with a final comment presumabley addressing the multiple allegations brought forth against Moore -- a sign party leaders are not willing to side with Moore's denials and instead remaining neutral until more facts surface.

"We also pray that justice and truth will prevail for all involved in this situation.”

This comes shortly after President Donald Trump issues a similar statement, saying Alabama voters should make the final decision in the December 12 election.
