Alabama State Troopers say McClusky failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of US Highway 72 and hit the 2007 GMC Sierra that was westbound on the highway.
Troopers say on Friday that McClusky was wearing his seatbelt, but the passengers were not.
Limestone County Coroner Mike West says three people - two men and a woman - died earlier Thursday night in a two-vehicle wreck at 7 Mile Post Road and Highway 72, about five miles west of Athens.
Alabama State Troopers said Gregory Keith McCluskey, 40, of Athens was killed when the 2009 Pontiac G6 he was driving entered US Highway 72 and was hit by a 2007 GMC Sierra about 7:10 p.m.
McCluskey, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two passengers of the Pontiac, a man and a woman, were also pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers have not released their names.
The driver of the GMC, a woman, was flown to Huntsville Hospital for treatment. Word on her condition has not been released.
Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.
